“Disco, I-” Doodles breaks off, hesitating.
“What is it?” asks Disco, glancing over at him with an expectant smile. To Doodles, she looks beautiful—cheeks flushed, forehead damp. They’ve been listening to her favorite album, Space Oddity. The record that, when she was younger, inspired her to become an astronaut. Now, as then, she’s tripping over the lyrics.
“Oh…nothing,” murmurs Doodles, opting not to correct her. “I forgot what I was going to say.”
“Okay—this is my favorite part!” Grinning, Disco throws her head back, belting out, “Grouch control to Major Tom…”
Doodles beams at her. Maybe the best of part of loving someone, he thinks, is witnessing them be exactly who they are.
Moving towards Disco, he offers his hand, and they start to dance.
